欧州委員会がルワンダの死刑廃止を歓迎
【26日付・27日欧州委員会発表】欧州委員会のルイ・ミシェール委員（開発・人道支援担当）とベニータ・フェッレーロ＝ヴァルトナー委員（外交・近隣政策担当）は、本日、ルワンダにおける死刑正式廃止を歓迎した。
ミシェール委員は、この重要な決定について、ルワンダ政府・ルワンダ国民を祝福して次のように述べた。「大きな驚きとともに、ルワンダが死刑廃止法を正式に採択したことを知りました。この重要な決定は、国内的な和解に向かう同国の政治的・民主的なコミットメントを確認するものです。この重要な一歩により、ルワンダが人権にコミットするとともに人権を尊重していることを示す重要なシグナルを、国際社会に向けて発信することになります。この決定に刺激されて、アフリカの他の国々がこれに追随することを望みます。」
