ペルー：欧州委員会が前日の地震に迅速に反応
【17日・欧州委員会発表】16日にペルーを襲った地震（死者330人以上）を受けて、本日、欧州委員会のJ・M・バローゾ委員長は、ペルーのアラン・ガルシア大統領に対して以下のような書簡を送った。「貴国を襲った地震が悲劇的な事態を惹き起こし、かくも多くの方々の命が失われたことを、深い悲しみをもって知りました。欧州委員会を代表するとともに、一個人としても、貴殿とペルー共和国国民に対して、犠牲者の家族への心からの弔意と、負傷されたすべての方々への深い同情の意を表させていただきます。」
欧州委員会は、ペルーの地震のあと迅速に行動し、人道支援局（ECHO）は、被災地域における同局のパートナー（赤十字・NGO・国連機関）の緊急支援活動のため、少なくとも100万ユーロを提供する決定につき、「第一次緊急事態」用のスピードアップした手続を開始している。
