シェンゲン圏拡大：欧州の目標である人の移動の自由の達成
【20日・欧州委員会発表】2007年12月21日に、エストニア、チェコ共和国、リトアニア、ハンガリー、ラトヴィア、マルタ、ポーランド、スロヴァキア、スロベニア〔の9か国〕は、シェンゲン圏〔出入国管理の相互廃止を規定するシェンゲン条約の加盟国圏〕の一部になるだろう。これらの国々と現在の15加盟国〔アイルランドと連合王国を除く東方拡大前のEU加盟国、ノルウェー、アイスランド〕の間の陸上・海上の域内国境における出入国管理は撤廃される。これは移動の自由という理想のきわめて有形な表現となるものである。すなわち、この最新のシェンゲン圏拡大により、4,278キロメートル〔原文ママ〕自由移動地域が広がる。
