欧州の製鋼業がCO2排出量削減のための研究開発へのコミットメントを再確認
【27日・欧州委員会発表】欧州製鋼技術プラットフォーム（ESTEP）は、本日、「超低炭素製鋼研究プログラム」（Ultra Low CO2 Steelmaking research programme）の第2段階〔ULCOS-II〕の開始を決定した。ULCOS-IIは、製鋼過程におけるCO2排出量の削減に関する世界で最も意欲的な研究開発努力となる。現行のULCOSプロジェクトは、製鋼からのCO2排出量の削減の引き上げをもたらす革新的技術を考案するため、製鋼業者・製鋼供給連鎖企業・研究所・高等教育機関の協力関係を構築するものである。このプロジェクトには、EUの研究プログラムから割り当てられた約3000万ユーロの資金が拠出されており、その中には、欧州委員会の管理する石炭鉄鋼研究基金（Coal and Steel Research Fund）からの資金も含まれる。第2段階には相当額の投資が必要であり、第1次産業スケールデモンストレーション（first industrial-scale demonstration）の費用は3億ユーロと見積もられている。
